For our cover photo, we placed our cover model in the plastic ball ocean at Dresden’s Kuddeldaddeldu and let him swim in it for a while. Many thanks to the venue for granting us photo permission.
The student newspaper SCHULZ of the Gotthold-Ephraim-Lessing-Gymnasium Kamenz won 3rd place in the Gymnasium & Comprehensive School category at the Saxon Youth Journalism Award 2023 for Issue 21. The award ceremony, organized by Jugendpresse Sachsen e.V., took place on Saturday, July 1, 2023.
The jury’s reasoning for awarding 3rd place:
“Your magazine consists of a wonderful mix of sophisticated and easy-to-access texts, so that all readers – whether young or old, part of your school community or not – can take something away from it. You cover many topics from even more perspectives, use different forms of presentation, and even write in multiple languages. You produce reports on class trips, conduct interviews about your school readings and hobbies, write a critical commentary on your school’s reconstruction, provide tips for homework, test recipes, include your fellow students in surveys, and create photo stories that give insight into your work. Speaking of photos, they impress us anew every year, and we would like to highlight them once again here: sophisticated, razor-sharp, and creatively illustrating your articles. They create stories that always put people at the center and feel personal. Your layout and the combination of texts, photos, graphics, and design elements support your content in a wonderfully individual way. You work very carefully, research thoroughly, and cite your sources.
With such a high level, it is no surprise that you are once again on the podium of the Saxon Youth Journalism Award in the Gymnasium category. Congratulations on 3rd place, SCHULZ – keep it up!”
In addition, our now former editor Liana Stötzer won 1st place in the Individual Contribution III category for her article “Maturing is realizing.”
The jury explained their decision as follows:
“Your article, written with wit and finesse, perfectly captures the feeling of uncertainty that comes with growing up. In a column-like style, you captivate readers and share your perspective on the challenges that mark the end of youth. The personal anecdotes and examples, as well as the lively language, make your article flow smoothly and appeal emotionally to both young and already grown-up readers. Particularly noteworthy are the clear, logical structure of the article and the accompanying graphic, which was obviously drawn with great care and perfectly tailored to the subject of the article. All in all, your article ‘Maturing is realizing’ greatly impressed us with its style, and we clearly see your literary talent. Congratulations on 1st place, dear Liana!”
