Issue 22 (1/2023)

For our cover photo, we went to Rochlitz Castle and placed our Elena in the imposing castle kitchen, exposed to the glow and smoke of the fireplace. After she smelled like a well-smoked ham, we photographed her and rewarded her with bananas. Many thanks to the castle staff and Schlösserland Sachsen for granting the photo permission.

The student newspaper SCHULZ of the Gotthold-Ephraim-Lessing-Gymnasium Kamenz won 2nd place in the Gymnasium/Comprehensive School category at the 20th Saxon Youth Journalism Award 2024 for Issue 22, which was published in summer 2023 under the main theme “Food.”

The award ceremony, organized by Jugendpresse Sachsen e.V., took place on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at the Weltecho in Chemnitz.

The jury’s reasoning for awarding 2nd place:

“While reading the cover stories on the topic of food, our mouths practically watered. You showed in many different facets that it really does matter what we consume – and you even uncovered some secrets about your teachers.
Your student newspaper is well-researched, diverse, and also leaves room for relaxation.”
