For our cover photo this time, we sneaked around our grammar school. The former main entrance of the Lessing School turned out to be the perfect backdrop to feature our new SCHULZ editor Matilda and our photographer Robert, who, in his final days at the school, once again puts himself impressively in the spotlight.

The student newspaper SCHULZ of the Gotthold-Ephraim-Lessing-Gymnasium Kamenz won 3rd place in the Gymnasium category at the 21st Saxon Youth Journalism Award 2025 for Issue 23, which was published in summer 2024 under the main theme “Next Generation.”

The award ceremony, organized by Jugendpresse Sachsen e.V., took place on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at the Mediencampus Villa Ida in Leipzig. A total of 172 student newspapers and individual contributions were submitted this year.

The jury’s reasoning for awarding 3rd place:

„This issue stands out for its humorous language and writing style. School life is not merely described, but the texts and interviews also convey a refreshing sense of distance. Some of the interview questions are witty and cheeky, and the plea in favor of cheating is relatable – making it a fun read. Particularly noteworthy is the portrait of the principal, whose illness has left physical marks: it is described sensitively, with journalistic distance, and yet remains moving. Especially remarkable are the professional photographs, which are not just simple illustrations but serve a clear journalistic purpose."
