For the cover page, we kidnapped our model Hannes, fired up the time machine, and traveled with him back to the early years of the last century. Many thanks to the Wartha School Museum for providing the photo location.
In the year of its 10th anniversary, the student newspaper SCHULZ of the Gotthold-Ephraim-Lessing-Gymnasium Kamenz won 2nd place in the Gymnasium category at the Saxon Youth Journalism Award for Issue 19. The award ceremony, organized by Jugendpresse Sachsen e.V., took place on Saturday, September 18, 2021.
The reasoning of laudator Linus Walter for awarding 2nd place:
“Reading the newspaper was a lot of fun, but at least as much fun was simply flipping through the pages. Especially because of the many great pictures you used. The photos are not only of high quality but also thematically fitting, making them a perfect complement and enhancement to the text. The photos achieve what the text cannot always deliver – they bring it to life, capture moods, emotions, and moments. With the images, you achieve what many strive for but not all succeed in: you give your student newspaper that special something. A unique touch that sets it apart from others. This is also reflected in your overall work, in your choice of topics and formats. The theme of accompanying teachers in their private free time and producing such a result is nothing short of cinematic – and while reading, one increasingly forgets that this is a student newspaper and not a professional weekly magazine. Hopefully not only in my eyes, this is an achievement to be truly proud of. So once again, congratulations. I very much look forward to reading from you again next year.”
In addition, 3rd place in the Photo/Graphic category was awarded for the cover photo of Issue 19, taken by SCHULZ photographer Dominic Wunderlich. According to laudator Anna Wamsler, the jury was particularly impressed by the small details that give the picture its thematic depth.
